(2) The significance of this quote is that it shows some of the things Ishmael went through. You can imagine how much his injury would hurt, and I think people doing that to him would be more than enough incentive to coming to America. I know if I were Ishmael and people did that to me, I would really want to leave the place where it happened.
(3) Although I have never been injured that severely, when I broke my collar bone I was in a lot of pain. I can imagine what his feet would look like, and in comparison to what my collar bone looked like, my collar bone is nothing. I feel for Ishmael and his friends, and I hope it doesn't happen to anyone else.
(4) Question 1: Have you ever gotten a serious injury like Ishmael had? Did you heal it like Ishmael did?

(2) The significance of this quote is that it describes how his life was before the war reached his area. It shows what he did and what other people thought of his actions. I think it shows that he made his life leisurely and had lots of fun. I think his life was more relaxed, and that is why the war coming to his area was a big blow to him.
(3) I can connect to this quote because both Ishmael and I like to play tricks on people. I've noticed as the book goes on, that both of us have many things in common. For example we both like music, soccer, tricking people, and in general having a fun time.
(4) Question 2: Do you think you have any traits in common with Ishmael? Do you think that you and Ishmael share the same trait of playing tricks?

Response 2: I remember reading this quote and i would have never guessed that he was the kind of kid that would play tricks on others. He didn't seem like the trixter kid to me. I also think this is a very descriptive quote that is a really good metaphor.
Answer 2: I think I am somewhat like Ishmael because I sometimes play tricks on others. But it's not what I do in my spare time.
