I was very glad to have him come to our school! I was eager to listen to what he had to say, but I knew the truth would be hard to handle. It was interesting to hear a first hand account of the events, because I felt more connected to the events because of all the emotions, then if you were just reading the book.
(2) Describe David's experiences with the Russian Partisans, and explain why you think Romek was so proud of him.
I think David's experiences with the Russian Partisans were good except for the fact that he was forced to help them against his will. Over the time he spent with the Russian Partisans, I think he got very attached to them and as he said "considered them family." I think Romek was so proud of David because it seemed like he was growing up to be just like Romek, and that he was doing his own part to stop the Nazis.
(3) Why do you think the Gestapo would spare David's life and return him to the ghetto after torturing his brother to death?
Well, I don't think the Gestapo spared David's life intentionally, I think they though they beat him up so badly that he would die. I also thought that they might have let him back into the ghetto so they could follow him back to his house where the rest of his family was. Thank fully neither happened, he didn't die, and he wasn't followed back to his house.
