The Wave Post 1

This is my first review on The Wave by Todd Strasser. Here are the answers to the questions my teacher has given us.

(1) When and where does the book occur?
This book takes place in Palo Alto, California in 1969. It mostly takes place on the grounds of Gordon High School.

(a) List at least three things the author describes that gave clues it was written during that time period, rather than today!
The author on the first page reveals the first clue when he says "Laurie looked around the small office, a room filled with desks, typewriters ..." He then reveals his second clue on page four when Mr . Ross tries to assemble a film projector but has no luck. The third clue, I found on page two was the first mention of smoking which was much more common back then than it is now.

(2) Choose a quote that jumped out at you as extremely interesting, unusual or important.
"The Nazis might have been a minority, but they where a highly organized, armed, and dangerous minority" I think this quote is important because it seems that it might have a big part in the story-line as it develops. I also think this quote is interesting because it shows how even something small can be powerful and dangerous.

(3) Question: Why do you think the other students treat Robert Billings unfairly?

1. I think that the other students treat Robert unfairly because they know that he does not participate in anything. They think he's dumb because he never wanted to participate in class discussions and share his knowledge with the rest of the class. He never had the courage. (That is my opinion)

2. I agree with your details that show that the book took place at an earlier time period. The typewriter is the old fashioned computer. The film projecter is the old fashioned computer projector. And drugs are not allowed in school at all.

2.I like your qoute because it made no intire sense.Like when the kids would ask how could that happen without no one knowing or even standing up.Its really sad but i totally see why it jumped out.It jumped out to me too.Good choice
3.I think the kids treat robert unfairly.Because they compare him too his brother. And since his brother is such a big winner and hes not.To them hes a loser because he didnt suceed. And also he doesnt care about school.Which some people think is cool these days. But i think he all reflects about his older brother.

4. The other students treat robert diffrently because they think he has a low iq. It's not fair because robert isnt dumb he just dosent try to do or participate in anything. If robert jusst tried to participate in something they wouldnt think he was so weird.

3. i like your quote because it shows that you dont have to be big to be powerfull. It also shows that if your organized you can achive your goals. The nazi also played a huge part in history.

4.I think others treat Robert unfarliy because he just not like normal, and he dosen't participate in anytthing like Ambar said. Hes lazy! Not smart! People just think he's weird aand he dosen't blong. Good job on the question.
