A Long Way Gone Post 6

(1) Quote 1: "That evening she returned with winter jackets, hats. and gloves for us."

Relates to Question: 7

(2) This quote is significant because it shows that Americans trust and help Ishmael. It relates to question seven because it describes their feelings towards Ishmael and other child soldiers. This person was very kind to give Ishmael these things, but I am sad to say, that probably a small group of Americans would not help Ishmael. I think this quote shows how generous and nice Americans can be.

(3) I agree and support the very nice person who gave Ishmael extra warm clothes. If I were the nice person, I would have done the same thing because Ishmael had gone through a lot, and all he needed were warm clothes. I have always been very happy when things were given to me, but Ishmael got something that he really needed, and I think that gave him a good idea of what America can be like.

(4) Question 1: Do you agree with me when I say that I think a "small group" of Americans would not help Ishmael? Do you think they would do this purposefully? Why/Why Not?

(1) Quote 2: "Whenever we were approaching a roadblock I would quietly start reciting prayers that I hoped would aid my passing through it."

Relates to Question: 2

(2) I chose this quote because it shows what the beginning of Ishmael's journey was like while he was trying to come to America. As the quote demonstrates, his journey was very difficult and dangerous. It shows that Ishmael is very nervous while still traveling in Sierra Leone, and that he does not trust many people, even the ones who ware supposed to be protecting him. I think Ishmael should at least be able to trust the soldiers, but I suppose it is not the same in Sierra Leone as it is here.

(3) I am surprised that Ishmael kept his cool while traveling, because you could tell he was very nervous. He managed to get away from Sierra Leone, which shows that he did keep his cool and outwitted the "sobels" (soldiers/rebels). I think Ishmael's past helped him survive the war, because he had experience evading the rebels when he was younger.

(4) Question 2: Have you ever been in a situation like Ishmael's? One where you felt uncomfortable and hoped that you would be able to get through the situation as quickly as possible?
