Lord of the Flies Post 3

Perspective: Ralph

Chapter 3: Huts on the Beach

The Huts Aren't Finished Yet
September 16

Simon and I are the only ones that work. We're trying to build huts for everyone but with only two people working, it doesn't go too fast. So far, in the time we've been here, we've only built two huts. Today I thought at least the Hunters are hunting, so we can eat some meat, only to find that they were bathing along with everyone else. Jack and I got in a fight today because of these vicissitudes.

I can hardly sleep at night. Everyone is scared. I can hear the other boys screams and susurrations in the night. They talk about a snake, a snake that will eat them. Most of the littluns, and some of the older kids are scared, and its gotten worse since the boy with the mark on his face died.

It seems like Jack is
rapt. All he cares about is catching a pig. It seems like he doesn't care whether we get off the island, so long as he's caught a pig. It's like he has the compulsion to kill. He's inscrutable, first he is polite, then all of a sudden he is on the defensive. I'm trying to figure out whether he a friend or foe, but I just can't figure it out.

Hope we get rescued soon,

Ralph

Nice incorporation of those words. I like how you show Ralph's view, especially his anger towards Jack because it accurately portrays the both of them. "It's like he has the compulsion to kill" was very good because it was like Ralph was actually talking, and you used the word nicely.
