The House of the Scorpion Post 1

(1) Characters:
The character I dislike the most in this book is Tom. He tortures, and probably kills, innocent animals... If you ask me, he sounds Dangerous! Maria gets on my nerves sometimes. She doesn't seem to realize how cruel Tom is to her and others, but when someone else does something wrong, she overreacts.

(2) Author:
I think the author, Nancy Farmer, did a really good job making sure the reader was "in the book." She makes it so realistic that some of the events in this book can really make you sad and upset. I like the way the author has lots of negative things happen to the main character, because usually they
(the main characters) all have a really nice life.

(3) Question: Why do you think Tom is so cruel to people and animals? Was it the way he grew up? What specifically?

1. I dislike Tom too because of the way he treat things he should at least try to repect everyone. And for Maria, maybe she acts like that because people treat her like her brother and sisters.

2. I really like how Nancy Farmer put the descriptions of each character in the beginning because it tells me what im in for.

3. I think Tom is so cruel to people and animals because of the clones.

1. Yes, Tom sounds DANGEROUS! Maria cares about Tom too much, and seems to never give Matt a chance.
2. This book is different because it shows the truth of life, like racism, and how if you don't do it right the first time, then you might not get a second chance.
3. I think he is cruel because of his own selfish needs, such as Maria liking her, and always being better than Matt. He is always acting nice in front of important people such as El Patron, but is a little brat normally. As Celia said, those innocent eyes can get anybody.
